Frequently asked questions

Why is Chhath on a different date from what my family panchang says?

Chhath follows Kartik Shukla Shashthi. When the tithi spans two sunrises, panchangs can disagree by a day. Our date uses the tithi at sunrise in Patna; local ghat committees follow the panchang of their area.

Does Bihar follow Purnimanta or Amanta months?

Purnimanta. A month ends on Purnima, so Krishna paksha comes first. The tithi and festival date are the same; only the month name differs from Amanta states.

Are the holiday dates official?

For 2026 we follow the published Bihar government notification. Later years are computed and updated once the notification appears. Islamic holidays depend on moon sighting.

Which city are the timings for?

Patna. Sunrise in Purnia can be about 10 minutes earlier and in Kaimur about 8 minutes later.

Why is Holi a day later than Holika Dahan?

Holika Dahan is on Phagun Purnima evening. Bihar plays colour the next morning, Chaitra Krishna Pratipada.

Will next year's calendar appear automatically?

Yes. The site is rebuilt on a schedule; next year's pages are added well before January.
