Sonepur Mela

On the sandbank where the Gandak meets the Ganga, the Harihar Kshetra mela opens with the Kartik Purnima snan and runs for about a month.

Kya dekhein

• Harihar Nath temple, where Vishnu and Shiva are worshipped together — the legend of Gaj-Graah is set here.
• The cattle and horse market, smaller today but still the heart of the fair.
• Handloom, Madhubani and sikki-grass stalls; tourism department cottages along the river.

Kaise pahunchein

Sonepur is about 25 km from Patna across the Gandhi Setu or the JP Setu; Sonepur and Hajipur railway stations are close. Go on a weekday morning to avoid the crowd.
